Another self help breakfast & the only staff member was a rather unfriendly lady. Maybe our taking over her kitchen didn’t endear us but if we were to eat & get away on time, we had little option. The morning was foggy & cold but at least it stayed dry. Gus was minutes late & the quote of the day has to go to Tony ‘If he was putting his towel on a sun bed, he’d be here by now’.
The day was split into 20-mile chunks via Minaudrie & Bressuire & by lunchtime we had sunshine. We had some busy road sections but largely quiet country roads & after 5 hrs 40 minutes riding, we arrived at the pretty town of Melle. Just over 80 miles, 1130 mts of climbing & an average speed of 14.7.
We found a room for the bikes, donned the shorts & sat at a bar across from the Hotel (Les Glycines) and watched the world go by. A stroll around the town, an excellent meal at the hotel restaurant (a goat dish, which was wonderful) & all was well with the world & the trip so far.
